So, who talks first? You talk first, I talk first?
nym's version of poe dameron
Born on the 10th of the fifth month in 2 ABY to Shara Bey and Kes Dameron, Poe Dameron was born among the stars as the Rebellion searched for a new base. At some point before establishing Echo Base, Poe's parents left him in the care of his maternal grandfather on an undisclosed planet to keep him safe from the Empire as they continued to fight for freedom. Some time after the Battle of Endor, Kes resigned from the Rebellion, and L'ulo L'ampar put in Shara's paperwork so they might retire. They settled on Yavin IV, near Wetyin's Colony, and Poe grew up on a ranch that included harvesting koya fruit. By six years old, Shara had begun taking him up in her old A-Wing starfighter to teach him how to fly; a year afterwards, Poe shattered his left arm after building and flying a microlight glider over the Massassi trees on Yavin.
By the time he was eight years old, Poe was no stranger to losing people. His maternal grandfather, whom he was close with, and one of Kes Dameron's fellow pathfinders, Rex, had already died, but that did nothing to prepare him for the loss of his mother, Shara Bey. While flying for the Civilain Defense Corp, Shara was killed in action, while Poe watched from his childhood bedroom as she fought to defend their homeworld. That loss grounded war in reality for him, going from romantic fairytales to a real struggle that saw people killed; still, it did not deter Poe's desire to fight as a soldier as his parents had done. By age sixteen, his relationship with his father became strained, and he was regularly in trouble with the authorities. After losing his mother's A-Wing, Poe met Zorii Wynn in the local cantina, Gully's, and was tricked into believing they were a simple smuggling crew in need of a pilot. Eager to get off-world, Poe accepted their invitation, learning too late they were a high profile crew with the Kijimi Spice Runners. Despite his strong moral compass, Poe stayed with the crew due to his attachment to Zorii, and his belief he'd damned himself and threw his future away by believing them. <
At seventeen years old, Zorii was revealed to be Zorii Bliss, daughter of Zeva Bliss, leader of the Spice Runners. Refusing to aid them in a massacre, Poe instead began a riot that effectively dismantled the powerful criminal syndicate, and fled Kijimi. Before leaving the planet, he overheard a speech by Senator Leia Organa, and felt an instant kinship with her, and knew he was meant to help her. He left and regrouped with L'ulo, who realized Poe still needed time to recover and get his life back on track before trying to mend his relationship with his father, and suggests he go to Castillon, since Shara used to race there, and it has the best star pilots in the galaxy. Obviously, Poe is intrigued, and lets L’ulo take him to the Colossus. It’s a ploy on L’ulo’s part, though, because Yegar has recently moved to the Colossus and set up his garage after the deaths of his wife and daughter. Since Kes was friends with Yegar, he sets Poe up to stay with him. During his time on the Colossus, Poe discovers a broken down BB-unit and sets about fixing him.
In 23 ABY, Poe enlists at the Flight Academy at age 21, and becomes Wedge Antilles best student. He becomes close with both Wedge and his family, although his relationship with Snap Wexley is initially contentous, they become fast friends. Poe then graduates in three years rather than the standard five; but his time in the Academy is not without tragedy. Shortly before graduation, Kes Dameron passes away; Poe and his close friend, Suralinda Javos, enter in a relationship after Kes's funeral, but it doesn't last long when it becomes clear that they want different things from a relationship. Poe leaves Yavin after graduation, and joins the New Republic Defense Fleet, where he's given the rank of commander, and put in charge of Rapier Squadron. At some point, Rapier Squadron is assigned to the Brooksidon, where he unknowingly meets Amilyn Holdo for the first time, and learns about the Resistance. Towards the end of 28 ABY, Muran is killed during a skirmish with the First Order. When the New Republic refuses to look into it, Poe goes against orders to investigate, and meets Leia Organa (again), and is recruited into the Resistance.
In the Resistance, Poe is assigned to the cruiser the Echo of Hope, and later Home One, and put in charge of his own flight wing. Following stealing a senator's yacht for information for Leia, they discover Lor San Tekka is alive, and Poe is assigned to find Luke Skywalker, and transferred to D'Qar.
As long as there's light, we've got a chance!

Despite Poe's desire to keep moving, and being a self-proclaimed "man of action", he was quite sentimental in regards to his family and homeworld. He constantly wore his mother's wedding ring, with the intention to someday give to the right partner, Poe wore a jacket made of runyip-leather and owned a pair of gloves of the same material, from an animal native to his homeworld. He was also noted to be superstitious, preferring a certain flight vest for missions, and preferring to fly in his heavily modified T-70 X-Wing dubbed Black One. He was wary towards animal life, and much to the horror of both Rose Tico and Rey Skywalker, wasn't opposed to the idea of using porgs for dinner. He also had at least one flight manual for X-Wings memorized as a kid.
